THE BEST LOOKOUT SPOTS IN LISBON, PORTUGAL TO GO MIRADOURO HOPPING

One of my favorite things about Lisbon is all of the lookout spots, or miradouros, where people hang out and appreciate the colorful skyline of the city.

If you search the word ‘Miradouro’ (loosely translates from to viewpoint from Portuguese) on your maps, it will show you all of the (named) lookout spots around you, all around the city. Being such a steep, hilly city, there are apparently over 30 known miradourous around Lisbon.

  1. Miradouro das Portas do Sol

This is my favorite view point in Lisbon, overlooking the Alfama neighborhood it feels straight out of a post card. People sit and hang out here and drink wine and coffee well into the night.

2. Miradouro Terracos do Carmo

Instead of paying for a ticket to take a ride up the Santa Justa Lift, head to the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo (Largo do Carmo, 1200-092) and take the side street next to it, towards Miradouro Terracos do Carmo, beside the Carmo Rooftop. It will take you right to the same view point that the elevator takes you to.

3. Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

In the western end of Lisbon, Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is a beautiful huge patio overlooking the city and a perfect place to sit and relax in the sun. Apparently this is the largest Miradouro in the city. The patio and fountains are located right next to Elevador da Glória. You have probably seen a picture of this view already.

4. Miradouro de Santa Luzia

This is most likely the most popular miradouro, and for good reason, the sky line is accompanied by a beautiful pergola tiled with bright colors and designs in the Jardim Júlio de Castilho, and people playing live music, most nights the saxophone. It is a perfect spot to sit and eat, or just watch the streets and ocean below.

5. The São Jorge Castle

The São Jorge Castle has a beautiful lookout view over the water and the city. The castle is definitely a must do in Lisbon, and the Miradouro just makes it even better. You can buy your tickets to visit the castle here from €15.
