THE BEST PLACES TO STAY ON THE CORN ISLANDS
Approximately 50 mi (70km) off the east coast of mainland Nicaragua sits the Corn Islands, two of the most untouched and underrated Caribbean Islands. Both Little Corn and Big Corn have some of the most beautiful and interesting scenes, culture and people, that quickly made this little corner of the earth one of my favorite places.
As tourism is gradually increasing on the islands, there is a good amount of small family run hotels and guesthouses. During my time spent on both Big Corn and Little Corn I gathered a list of accommodation options to share here.

ACCOMMODATION ON BIG CORN
As Big Corn has more land mass to choose from, it is easier to explain and navigate areas and stays by what end of the island they are on. Sally Peachy, the neighborhood on the north end of the island was where I stayed, and where I would definitely recommend staying.
I feel like I owe a large part of how amazing my stay on Big Corn to the part of the island that I was staying at. This is one of my favorite places that I have stayed in during all of my travels.
I stayed at Corn Island Hostal, a bright and beautiful, simple, Caribbean style guest house, on the northern end of the island. My private room was big with a beautiful balcony and view over the water and the little road. This stretch of the island was so peaceful, and the house was in the most ideal spot.
The beach was washed out from the hurricane last year, but going down the stairs onto the rocks on the water at night underneath the full moon and bright stars every night is one of the highlights of my whole life so far.
Rooms start at $25/night.
SOME OTHER OPTIONS INCLUDE:
Though it is in the middle of the island and not on the water, for $11 this stay looks great, clean, big, and central as it is right by the small airport and the main docks.
Rooms start at $11/night.
YOU CAN BOOK LA CASA NARANJA HERE
$$ OCEAN VIEW
Right next to Corn Island Hostal, Ocean View is essentially the same thing, just with larger apartment style accommodation. Again I would highly recommend.
Rooms start at $37/night.
$$$ SUNSET BAY B&B
Extremely similar to Corn Island Hostal (and most of the other small family guesthouses) but leveled up with beautiful local food and bright, gorgeous rooms , this looks fabulous-and it is closer to everything and the main docks.
Rooms start at $40/night.
ACCOMMODATION ON LITTLE CORN
All of the accommodations on Little Corn are basic and comfortable and very affordable, with the exception of the one higher end resort Yemaya.
As the island is so tiny, all of the options are in extremely close proximity of one another-most towards the southern end of the island-so taking location into consideration is not the most important thing to factor in. When you are on such a little island it is hard for the hotels and guesthouses to not be in good spots.
LAS PALMERAS OCEANVIEW HOTEL AND DIVE CENTER
I stayed at Las Palmeras and it was perfect. It had a little restaurant and bar and it was so peaceful at night with such a cool, chill group of travelers from around the world. They offer diving lessons and trips, and the staff was so sweet and helpful. I absolutely loved it so much and I will stay there again next time I am there.
Rooms start at $26/night.
SOME OTHER OPTIONS INCLUDE:
Right down the little foot path from Las Palmeras towards the main dock on the Island is Christina’s Guesthouse, where a couple of other travelers that I met on the little boat ride over were staying. The guesthouse is right next to the main little spot in the village and the building has a upper deck as well to see the beautiful sunsets over the sea.
Rooms start at $12/night.
Run by a family on the northern end of the island, this eco-lodge looks so perfect, secluded, and amazing for diving. Next time I am on Little Corn I will stay here for at least two or three nights to dive and relax.
Rooms start at $57/night
$$$ LITTLE CORN ISLAND BEACH AND BUNGALOW
Similar to Derek’s Place, Little Corn Beach And Bungalow is just as gorgeous with a little step up. The bungalows look magical, and the whole place looks bright, beautiful and peaceful.
Rooms start at $125/night.
$$$ YEMAYA REEFS
The most higher end resort on Little Corn is Yemaya Reefs, on the northern tip of the island. With gorgeous ocean view bungalows, pools, a spa and a private part of Otto Beach, this is a stunning honeymoon resort. From the boat docks on Big Corn, Yemaya even has a private boat charter for guests, so that you do not have to take the small boat taxi to the main dock on Little Corn.
No matter where I am in the world, I will always use Booking.com while planning my stays. Explore your options for Nicaragua as a whole here.
It would be so easy for me to keep my mouth shut and save this tiny, beautiful little corner of the earth to myself as a lesser known secret, but these two islands benefit so greatly from tourism and are so special, I wish that everyone would be able to experience the feeling off sitting underneath the stars on the islands’ empty remote beaches at night at least once in their lifetime.
